Jeffrey S. Bland, PhD, is a nutritional biochemist widely associated with the development of the functional medicine movement, an approach focused on identifying root causes of chronic disease through systems biology and personalized lifestyle interventions. In 1991, he and his wife Susan co-founded the Institute for Functional Medicine, and he later founded the Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute and Big Bold Health, where he serves as president. In the early 1980s, he was selected by Linus Pauling to serve as Director of Nutritional Research at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine. Bland has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed papers and several books, including The Disease Delusion, and contributed to the founding of Bastyr University.
